There was a Primitive Methodist Society listed in the Ripon Circuit in 1832. The first chapel, behind the Post Office, was demolished in 1837 and in 1839, there were 45 members listed when Pateley Bridge became a separate Circuit.
A new chapel was b uilt in 1859 as a primitive methodist chapel, known as the Ebenezer Chapel. Once inside, worshippers divided as men and women separated to pass through their own doors. When the union of Primitive and Wesleyan methodists took place in 1933, the Ebenezer closed in favour of the much bigger Wesleyan chapel at the top of the town. The building stood empty for three years and then the Salvation Army took over the building and used it until 1959. It was taken over by the Pateley Bridge Society of Dramatic Art, who bought the building for £136, the price paid for it by the Salvation Army in 1936. Initially used for storage and rehearsal, the building was converted to a theatre in about 1967 and continues in that use today.
