There is a record of Methodist services being held in a local farmhouse in 1815, the year of Waterloo. In 1816, the Methodist Society here numbered 19 members. and by 1838, 43. The hut was erected in 1894 on ground donated by Mr. Todd, unfortunately no deeeds were drawn up and there was some subsequent disagreement, which was resolved by the Society paying a nominal rent of 1sh per annum, which was paid at leat up to 1958. Because of the limited seating capacity of the hut, special services were held in Mr. Atkinson's barn. Falling into some disrepair, the chapel closed in 1976 and the members transferred to Wath.
The chapel is now rented to the Boys Brigade, who have a residential centre nearby, Leng House, formerly the old school, who use it for the occasional service.
