An inscription on the east window records:
"This chapel was built in the memory of John Metcalf who died March 20 1861 aged 77: George Metcalfe who died Nov 30 1865 aged 77 Both of Pateley Bridge and given to the Wesleyan Connexion by George Metcalfe of Castlesteads AD 1866"
George Metcalfe built the chapel in memory of his father, George and uncle, John, paying for its enlargement in 1876.
