The Religious Buildings of Nidderdale

This study seeks to encompass the religious buildings of Nidderdale, including those that have now gone out of use. They have been photographed recently and the process of adding brief historical notes continues. This is a large task and the active links below indicate the progress that has been made. Any visitors who would like to add to the entry for any of the churches or chapels listed or to point out any errors, please do not hesitate to contact the site.

Methodist

During the 19th century, Methodist chapels sprang up around the dale, a reflection of local zeal, the separation of the circuits with the advent of the Primitive Methodists and difficult transport. With the merger of the Wesleyan and Primitive circuits in 1933, better transport and reduced church attendance, there has been an inevitable concentration of resources. The following is divided into two sections, currently active chapels and redundant chapels, now used for other purposes or demolished .
