<p>Nidderdale, Landscape and History</p>
<p>The impulse to know more about the place in which we live is old and enduring.
There is a long standing antiquarian tradition in the dale and at the present
time much interest, among both ‘locals’ and visitors, in its landscape, its
flora and fauna and its history. There is a curiosity about the forces which
shaped the landscape and the story told by the tangible remains of the past
- the field patterns, mills and houses. There is real affection - and concern
- for the fragile ecology which gives the valley its character. If you are reading
